THE COWBOY AND THE BEAR

THE COWBOY AND THE BEAR

It seems a cowboy from Colorado skipped church one Sunday to go bear hunting in the mountains. As he turned the corner along the path, he and a bear collided.

The cowboy stumbled backwards, slipped off the trail and began tumbling down the mountain with the bear in hot pursuit. Finally the cowboy crashed into a boulder, sending his rifle in one direction and breaking both legs. As the bear closed in, the cowboy cried out in desperation, “Lord, I’m sorry for what I have done. Please forgive me and save me! Lord, please make that bear a Christian.” Suddenly, the cloudsparted and a beam of light shown down on the bear. The bear skidded to a halt at the cowboy’s feet, fell to its knees, clasped its paws together and said, “God, bless this food which I am about to receive.”

Lines from Lady Lynn

HEBREWS 10:24-25

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

WHY DO PEOPLE NEED CHURCH? I recently had a conversation with an individual that does not attend church on a regular basis, with no intentions of doing so. This individual told me that he attends Bedside Baptist every Sunday morning when he decides to wake up and roll over on the side of his bed. I was also advised by this person that he can say his own prayers and thank God without going to a building orlistening to a man speak.

I was not at a loss for words in response, but I did not have a biblical scripture to respond with and had actually forgotten our conversation until now. Why do people need church? If I am speaking to an athlete, I use the “team” analogy of practice (worship service) makes perfect and the coach (The Pastor) being the one to ensure our workouts are complete and affective.

When we look at Hebrews 10:24-25 we are being asked to stir up that feeling of love and good works, but it also tells us that we must meet together on a regular basis (Bible Study, Sunday School, Sunday Morning Worship, (practice), to encourage one another to be faithful while we are all touched by Satan at some point and time in our lives.

We must all be Andrews and bring people that you encounter in your everyday lives to come and meet with us on Sunday morning to stir up love and good works and to be encouraging while going through those trials and tribulations.

Pastor Windley has been asked to lead this New Church Plant – Amazing GRACE Community of Faith, but, it will take each and every Andrew within the Church Body to be PLEASING IN GOD’S SIGHT.
